House of the Rising Sun
Most songs are under copyright, so ASCAP or BMI would come after me if I recorded them. This song is in the public domain, since it’s been around so long. It was first notated by Alan Lomax in Appalachia in 1930s. When I was hanging with Ben Stern (Mr. Piano Man himself), we decided to record our version of it.
There is a house in New Orleans they call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy, and Lord, I know I'm one.
2. My mother was a tailor; she sewed my new blue jeans.
My father was a gamblin' man down in New Orleans.
3. Now the only thing a gambler needs is a suitcase and a trunk
And the only time he's satisfied is when he's on a drunk.
4. Oh mother, tell your children not to do what I have done:
Spend your lives in sin and misery in the House of the Rising Sun.
5. Well, I got one foot on the platform, the other on that train.
I'm goin' back to New Orleans to wear that ball and chain.
